Fashion house sourcing
Hi, I am sharing some fashion house source information. Typically a fashion or design house creates clothing designs and then puts them into production.
They usually have one main master designer and several next level designers.
The main designer may create the collection but the other designers help create the custom fabrics, notions like buttons, zippers, fancy closures, labels, elastics and so on.
Other people within the fashion house would include pattern makers, sample makers, seamstresses, tailors, and couturiers.
They will have people managing to source needed to pull the design together. It can take several months to get everything right and perfect for one design.
Usually, once they have everything together and a perfect prototype they will send it off somewhere else for factory production.
Their design and production house business has little difference. They offer fashion house services to designers who don't have everything to take their designs from concept to creation.
They are the designer, they also have the project manager in charge of making their fashion a reality. They go through the same process as if they were the designer. They source existing fabrics, make custom fabrics, coordinate custom hardware and get everything ready for production. Patterns. Prototypes. Grading.
Once they have gotten through the pre-production phase, they typically take on projects which they can make in short runs, in-house. It's a huge reason why people choose to work with them.
Once they get to a point where their fashion is selling or they have an offer for a contract to sell their design to a retailer, then they help them transition the project over to a larger scale factory production fashion house. Thank you.
